Army mom: Military suicides ‘out of control’

CALLAWAY, Fla. — Libby Busbee pounded on the window of her son’s maroon Dodge Charger as he sat in the driveway of their home earlier this year. Locked inside his car, Army Spc. William Busbee sat with a .45-caliber gun pointed to the side of his head.

“Look at me,” his mother cried out as she tried to get her son’s attention. “Look at me.”

He wouldn’t look.

Losing the war on suicide

He stared out the front windshield, distant, said Libby Busbee, relating the story from an apartment complex in Callaway.

“I kept yelling, ‘Don’t you do this. Don’t do it.’ He wouldn’t turn his head to look at me,” she said, looking down at the burning cigarette in her hand.

A 911 call was made. The police pulled her away from the car.

William, Libby Busbee’s 23-year-old son, was talking with a police officer when he fired a shot through the front windshield of his car, according to the police report.

The police recoiled. William rapped on the window in apparent frustration, the report indicated.

Then the second shot was heard.

“I knew that was the one,” said Libby Busbee.

William Busbee took his life in March with his mother and sisters looking on.

Casualty of war?

William Busbee was no casualty of the war in Afghanistan. He was a casualty of his own mind, his mother said.

Libby Busbee bowed her head, talking as she sat next to a bird-of-paradise on the front porch of her apartment. She could no longer live in the home on 12th Street.

“They wouldn’t let me talk to him,” she said, referring to the day her son shot himself. “I know if he was able to see me he wouldn’t have done it.”

According to a Veterans Affairs report this spring, a veteran commits suicide every 80 minutes. More than 6,500 suicides have occurred since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began. For every service member who dies in battle, 25 veterans die by their own hands.

According to a Pentagon report, more American active service members have killed themselves in the first six months of 2012 than in the first six months of any of the previous 11 years, The Associated Press reported.

The report reveals 154 service members killed themselves in the first 155 days of 2012 alone. The number of deaths by suicide is 50 percent higher than combat deaths in Afghanistan during the same period and an 18 percent increase over active service member suicides in the first six months of 2011.

And, while only 1 percent of Americans have served in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, veterans of these conflicts represent 20 percent of all suicides in the United States, the VA reported.

Nightmares

Libby Busbee said when her son returned home, he didn’t leave the war behind.

“He saw horrible things — his friends dying,” she said. “The people over there were constantly attacking them. He even said the kids would be with them when they attacked.”

William Busbee was in the Army Special Forces, airborne and the Army Rangers.

“He told me how he picked up the body parts and loaded them onto a helicopter so their families would have something to bury,” she said.

She said her son had tried to commit suicide in Pesh Valley of Afghanistan. “He told me, ‘Momma, the William you knew died over there,’ ” she said.

On his return home, “He couldn’t be in the dark — at all. He’d flip out in the dark,” she said. “He was sleepwalking and they gave him 400 milligrams of Seroquel, they gave him Paxil, Klonopins. They had him on a lot of stuff. I don’t think he knew which way to go.

“When he would have his nightmares he would stand right up staring at me,” she said. “He would say, ‘Who are you?’ “

It was as though her son was not inside his body at times, she said.

“It was the medications,” Libby Busby said. “That caused hallucinations.”

She stared out across the green patch of lawn across from her apartment as her daughters played inside.

“We thought he was happy, and then he killed himself right in front of us,” she said.

Shortage of professionals

Deb Tainsh Of Panama City Beach has become friends with Libby Busbee. Tainsh has been a fighter against the silence surrounding veterans affairs issues.

Tainsh and her husband, David, are the parents of Army Sgt. Patrick Tainsh, who was killed in Iraq in 2004. They are the founders and executive directors of Bereaved Military Families of America & Hearts for Military Heroes Veterans Assistance Program, a Florida all volunteer not-for-profit organization.

Tainsh traveled to Washington, D.C., to rally more support for veterans in the Gulf Coast area. She was unable to get to Gen. Eric Shinseki, secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs, but she did make contact with his staff.

“The Veterans Administration was supposed to get 1,900 mental health professionals, and a couple were to be coming to Panama City,” Tainsh said. “What has become of the them?”

In April, Shinseki announced the increase in mental health care workers would be 1,600. The VA said it was moving quickly to address this top priority, but they are not here yet.

Tainsh has admitted she feels anger at the number of suicides she sees among young veterans.

“Like I told the director of the VA Gulf Coast, it is a monster out of control,” Tainsh said. “They are not prepared for the number of veterans.”

Tainsh said it was about leadership and doctors who work in the hospitals.

“There is a lack of professional personnel to deal with the veterans,” she said. “An example of that is our Delwood Clinic here in Panama City.

“There was a professional mental health doctor there who left in the past several months, and I have heard from a number of our local veterans that hated to see him go because he was one of the best,” she continued. “I learned later that he left because he could not deal with the volume.”

That doctor declined to speak with The News Herald.

Delwood Chief Managing Officer Robert Mishra agreed there is a shortage of psychiatrists at Delwood.

“We have two psychiatrists and two nurse practitioners,” he said. “There is a shortage out there.”

Mishra said the veterans clinics are having trouble retaining qualified help. “The private sector pays more.”

Suicides not going down

Edwin R. Ailes, president and CEO of Life Management Center of Northwest Florida, said the rise in suicides is troubling but probably will not subside since the number of veterans coming home from war continues.

“We are seeing people requesting help that have military experience coming to Life Management Center,” Ailes said. “And sadly this will go on for a long time. We still see persons with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and suicidal thinking from the Vietnam era, and we’re relatively certain we will see this well into the future with persons who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

Ailes also noted that family members and friends of suicide victims are left with feelings of anger, sadness and guilt. He believes the experiences of the combatant are unique to them, and they often become reclusive.

“Witnessing combat is not normal life,” said Ailes. “Witnessing tragedy is not normal life.”

Ailes said traumatic events are constantly being repeated in the service member’s mind.

“It is the traumatic event over and over again,” Ailes said. “It is a constant battle within.”

Ailes, who did not wish to comment on the Busbee case specifically, said mixing drugs and taking too much of one type of drug could be detrimental to an individual’s health. Overdoses of prescribed medicine can add to a person’s psychological problems, he said.

A family moves on

Libby Busbee continues to do the best for her daughters. But she wonders how long the impressions they had of that day William Busby took his life will continue to impact their lives. She smiles as guests enter her home, a smile that struggles.

During a recent interview, she sifted through the bottle of pills in a plastic bag and looked at the labels from three pharmacies in three states.

She wonders what could have been for her son. She doesn’t believe he got the help he deserved.

She has saved a lot of the belongings her son left behind — the uniform with Army Special Forces badge, a Rangers badge and Airborne badge. She doesn’t know what all the medals mean.

On his last day, William Busbee had his uniform cleaned and pressed. She keeps the uniform hanging in a closet. She rarely takes it out.

She has saved several of the last text messages she received from her son on the day he killed himself. One still haunts her to this day: “I love you.”

List of drugs

William Busbee had numerous drugs, or the metabolites of drugs, in his body after his death. He had prescriptions for some of these drugs from three pharmacies in three states.

Present in the body: Tramadol (pain reliever), bupropion (antidepressant), paroxetine (anti-anxiety), alpha-hydroxyalprazolam (metabolite of alprazolam, anti-anxiety/panic disorder), cannabinoids (marijuana), oxycodone (pain reliever)

Prescribed but not present: Seroquel (schizophrenia/bipolar disorder), Paxil (antidepressant), Prazosin (high blood pressure), clonazepam (anti-anxiety), ondansetron (anti-nausea), cyproheptadine (allergies), Percocet (pain reliever)

Why we shoot deer in the wild. (A letter from someone who wants to remain anonymous, who farms, writes well and actually tried this)

I had this idea that I could rope a deer, put it in a stall, feed it up on corn for a couple of weeks, then kill it and eat it. The first step in this adventure was getting a deer. I figured that, since they congregate at my cattle feeder and do not seem to have much fear of me when we are there (a bold one will sometimes come right up and sniff at the bags of feed while I am in the back of the truck not 4 feet away), it should not be difficult to rope one, get up to it and toss a bag over its head (to calm it down) then hog tie it and transport it home.

I filled the cattle feeder then hid down at the end with my rope. The cattle, having seen the roping thing before, stayed well back. They were not having any of it. After about 20 minutes, my deer showed up– 3 of them. I picked out a likely looking one, stepped out from the end of the feeder, and threw my rope. The deer just stood there and stared at me. I wrapped the rope around my waist and twisted the end so I would have a good hold..

The deer still just stood and stared at me, but you could tell it was mildly concerned about the whole rope situation. I took a step towards it, it took a step away. I put a little tension on the rope .., and then received an education.. The first thing that I learned is that, while a deer may just stand there looking at you funny while you rope it, they are spurred to action when you start pulling on that rope.

That deer exploded. The second thing I learned is that pound for pound, a deer is a lot stronger than a cow or a colt. A cow or a colt in that weight range I could fight down with a rope and with some dignity. A deer– no Chance. That thing ran and bucked and twisted and pulled. There was no controlling it and certainly no getting close to it. As it jerked me off my feet and started dragging me across the ground, it occurred to me that having a deer on a rope was not nearly as good an idea as I had originally imagined.. The only upside is that they do not have as much stamina as many other animals.

A brief 10 minutes later, it was tired and not nearly as quick to jerk me off my feet and drag me when I managed to get up. It took me a few minutes to realize this, since I was mostly blinded by the blood flowing out of the big gash in my head. At that point, I had lost my taste for corn-fed venison. I just wanted to get that devil creature off the end of that rope.

I figured if I just let it go with the rope hanging around its neck, it would likely die slow and painfully somewhere. At the time, there was no love at all between me and that deer. At that moment, I hated the thing, and I would venture a guess that the feeling was mutual. Despite the gash in my head and the several large knots where I had cleverly arrested the deer’s momentum by bracing my head against various large rocks as it dragged me across the ground, I could still think clearly enough to recognize that there was a small chance that I shared some tiny amount of responsibility for the situation we were in. I didn’t want the deer to have to suffer a slow death, so I managed to get it lined back up in between my truck and the feeder – a little trap I had set before hand…kind of like a squeeze chute. I got it to back in there and I started moving up so I could get my rope back.

Did you know that deer bite?

They do! I never in a million years would have thought that a deer would bite somebody, so I was very surprised when ….. I reached up there to grab that rope and the deer grabbed hold of my wrist. Now, when a deer bites you, it is not like being bit by a horse where they just bite you and slide off to then let go. A deer bites you and shakes its head–almost like a pit bull. They bite HARD and it hurts.

The proper thing to do when a deer bites you is probably to freeze and draw back slowly. I tried screaming and shaking instead. My method was ineffective.

It seems like the deer was biting and shaking for several minutes, but it was likely only several seconds. I, being smarter than a deer (though you may be questioning that claim by now), tricked it. While I kept it busy tearing the tendons out of my right arm, I reached up with my left hand and pulled that rope loose.

That was when I got my final lesson in deer behavior for the day.

Deer will strike at you with their front feet. They rear right up on their back feet and strike right about head and shoulder level, and their hooves are surprisingly sharp… I learned a long time ago that, when an animal -like a horse –strikes at you with their hooves and you can’t get away easily, the best thing to do is try to make a loud noise and make an aggressive move towards the animal. This will usually cause them to back down a bit so you can escape.

This was not a horse. This was a deer, so obviously, such trickery would not work. In the course of a millisecond, I devised a different strategy. I screamed like a woman and tried to turn and run. The reason I had always been told NOT to try to turn and run from a horse that paws at you is that there is a good chance that it will hit you in the back of the head. Deer may not be so different from horses after all, besides being twice as strong and 3 times as evil, because the second I turned to run, it hit me right in the back of the head and knocked me down.

Now, when a deer paws at you and knocks you down, it does not immediately leave. I suspect it does not recognize that the danger has passed.. What they do instead is paw your back and jump up and down on you while you are laying there crying like a little girl and covering your head.

I finally managed to crawl under the truck and the deer went away. So now I know why when people go deer hunting they bring a rifle with a scope……to sort of even the odds!!

The Loss of Palestine

There are thousands of articles and video clips on the Internet of the massacres in Gaza, unarmed civilians are being shelled, children are dying. Bad karma. It brings more hatred on Israel, they are already the most hated people in the world because of their leader’s cruelty, violence and abuse in Palestine. It’s a different morality.

Matan Vilnai, deputy defense minister, said yesterday on Army radio, they would bring a “shoah” (holocaust) on the Palestinians. His remarks were reported world wide.

It’s not good, there will be a backlash against ordinary Jews. I’m scared of that. It may bring on a second holocaust.

In the Jewish religious book the Talmud, it says that non-Jews (goyim) are filth (niddah), dogs, cattle, pigs, beasts, and monkeys, killing them is allowed, it says:

(Sanhedrin 59a:) “Murdering Goyim is like killing a wild animal.” And it says Jews may kill and rob non-Jews.

When a Jew murders a Gentile (“Cuthean”), there will be no death penalty. What a Jew steals from a Gentile he may keep”. (Sanhedrin 57a).

So there is an evil in it, as it’s a death wish. I don’t think it’s anti-semitic quoting from the Talmud, that is certainly not my intention; the information is openly available on the Internet. These laws are very unnatural to the Christian view point, but it is important to study these Jewish ideas as we are inside their destiny, which I’ve explained before. If they go down, we all go with them, they control our leaders, and they own the dollar and command the financial markets. They order our armies to war. If they start a world war and/or if Israel is destroyed there will hell to pay, they are going to take it very personally.

The Books of the Talmud

I’m sure most decent Jews don’t hold to the Talmud’s ugly laws, which were written down more than a thousand years ago, when people were less evolved and less aware, but you can see how the polices of the politicians and the New World Order have been formulated through supremacy and hatred for the Arabs and other goy.

There are several pedophilia laws in the Talmud that say sex with children is permitted: (Aboda Sarah 37a)”A Gentile girl who is three years old can be violated.”

(Yebhamoth 11b) “Sexual intercourse with a little girl is permitted if she is three years of age.”

When I read this it rattled me for two days. I was shocked. But it might explain the pedophilia epidemic in Hollywood, as the people in power there believe penetrating a small boy or girl of just three years old is condoned by God.

Rape is also permitted in the Talmud when performed on non-Jewish women: (Hadarine, 20, B; Schulchan Aruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348) and there is a very suspicious law in the Talmud which says:

(Libbre David 37) “To communicate anything to a goy about our religious relations would be equal to the killing of all Jews, for if they knew what we teach about them they would kill us openly.”

So that sets up the second holocaust. You can see the danger. The contents of the Talmud are supposed to be kept secret, but there are hundreds of thousands of pages on the Internet, so everyone can study them and learn about the laws of the Jewish people.

You are not allowed to hate the Jews or harm them just because they may hate us non-Jews. Love is the only way through, no matter how demonic things get. The Talmud says, “The highest form of wisdom is kindness”, so there is always hope.  Stuart Wilde (www.stuartwilde.com)

As previously noted, there are petitions for secession for all 50 states posted to whitehouse.gov. There is little or no mention of this in the Main Stream Media. Just what is the MSM? Newspapers, CNN, NBC.ABC,CBS,FOX ETC. These news organizations are in the pocket of the government.

It’s not like the 70’s when The Washington Post brought down the Nixon Administration with Watergate, and Walter Cronkite at CBS talked openly about Vietnam and stirred up the entire country. The papers and the TV’s had people marching in the streets, rioting, changing things.

Now, the best you can do is attract a Flash Mob of a couple of thousand people with Twitter and just manage to irritate a few Cops.

What the media does is ignore such things as secession, and cover it up with the Middle East, while the President ignores the obvious long enough for it to expire or die down.

Even people doubt what they read on the web. There is so much disbelief over what is written by bloggers. We are rated one step above malcontents, communists, extremists and total idiots.

Well, if that’s what you want to think, get rid of your damn Facebook accounts, and cell phones. Talk about a bunch of bullshit information.
