Merry Christmas

I would like to wish one and all a Merry Christmas.

May your happiness and generosity spread to those who don’t have the basic essentials to live day to day.

Please think of them and give generously to the Salvation Army and to the Veterans Associations. Local food banks and shelters can use all the help they can get, so please think of them as well.

Another Distraction From the Government Screw Job

Children being killed in Connecticut. Shooter crazed. Assault Weapons kept in a Suburban house. Sane Mother shot by crazed son, prior to school shootings.

These headlines will be around for weeks. And, what will our Government be doing to us during that time? Well, first, there is still the fiscal cliff matter, which will probably be worked out if anyone in the Senate hopes to ever be reelected. The Congress is screaming for Gun Control which, while no one is watching will get pushed through to no ones liking.

We already have a system in place for gun control. It simply has to be tweaked and enforced.

Weapon Registration can be incorporated like carrying permits. Bank ground checks are run and then a permit to purchase is issued. However, this should be expanded to include anyone who also lives in that house. For example, a Felon, an individual being treated for depression, as the man in Connecticut had been, or anyone having a criminal record. The permit to purchase would be denied thus removing the temptation for residents, other than the owner having access to the weapons.

So you say, that’s discrimination to refuse a permit to a sane, record free person, based on others in his house. But, that is just what occurred in Connecticut. The mother was permitted to own weapons and the son would not have been. He killed her, took the weapons and used them in the act of murder/suicide.

Everyone is blaming the NRA, the 2nd Amendment,   Gun Makers, and everyone else.

It’s time for some introspective when it comes to taking responsibility for actions that could very well take place in almost any American household.

Do you have guns? Do you have children? Then you could repeat what happened in Connecticut.

“I have them locked up.” “My kid’s know better.” “I keep them hidden.” “My kid’s aren’t crazy.”

Just keep telling yourself that. I’m sure more than one of the parents of those children in Connecticut read about West Virginia, Columbine and others and thought the same thing, including the mother of the shooter.

Good Luck thinking that way.

WHY? WHY GOD? Connecticut School Shooting

Everyone is asking why, God? Take a good look at yourselves. Christians are encouraging Jews to kill Palestinians, Muslims are killing other Muslims. All religions have the same God, just different Prophets. Yes, Christians, even Christ was a Prophet. Everyone forgets God’s message of Thou Shall Not Kill, and follows mans interpretation of the Bible, Koran or Torah. All written by man, read by man, and interpreted by man. Does man serve God? No! man lives to serve man. So, when mans free will leads him to murder innocent children, he cries out ‘Why God’? Why indeed!

Do you really think God serves you at YOUR convenience? Do you think that now that children lie dead at their parents feet that you should question God’s motives for not intervening? Do you honestly have the GALL to blame him for the fact that all religions are the Immaculate Holy Seat of Hypocrisy in this Wretched Hell Hole of a World that you Pious Ass Holes have the nerve to act all Godly about One Day a week and Several Holidays a Year. And THEN, you get PISSED when CHILDREN are SLAUGHTERED by someone who it will be sworn, was a Piller, of his Community. So, it will all be God’s fault?

LOOK AT YOURSELVES, YOU MISERABLE EXCUSES FOR SPACE TAKING, AIR-BREATHING, MAMMALS!

YOU ARE SCUM, IN THE EYES OF ANY DEITY THAT NOW EXISTS TO WATCH OVER YOU OR EVER WILL!

Iran VS Israel

Since the 1979 Iranian revolution and the downfall of the US Puppet Ruler the Shah, Iran has been an Islamic state. In that interval of time, 1979 to the present, Iran has not invaded anyone. Not once. People of all religions live in peace in Iran, even Jews, who find life so comfortable in Iran they refused an offer by the government of Israel to emigrate!

In the same period of time, Israel, a self-declared Jewish state, attacked Iraq in 1981, bombing the power station at Osirik, claiming it was a clandestine weapons factory. Subsequent examination of the ruins following the 2003 invasion proved Israel had lied. In 1982, Israel invaded Lebanon. This led to the Massacres at Sabra and Shatilla. In February 2003 Israel staged incursions into Gaza and Nablus. In September 2007 Israel bombed Syria, again insisting they were destroying a clandestine weapons laboratory. Again there was no evidence to support Israel’s claims. In 2006, Israel attacked Lebanon, killing 1200, mostly civilians, several UN observers, and littering the landscape with land mines on their way out. In February 2008 Israel again raided Gaza, killing over 100. HAMAS agreed to a cease fire and kept it for 6 months until November 4, when Israel again attacked without warning, killing 6 HAMAS members, and launching operation CAST LEAD. 1300 Gazans, mostly civilians, were killed. Israel lost 13 soldiers. Violations of international law included the use of White Phosphorus incendiary bombs against civilians and non-military targets. The United Nations investigated, but Israel refused to cooperate. In May 2010, Israel attacked an international aid flotilla bringing food and medical supplies to Gaza in international waters. 9 people were murdered including an American from New York.

In the same period of time, the United States, officially a secular nation but predominantly Christian, attacked El Salvador (1980), Libya (1981), Sinai (1982), Lebanon (1982 1983), Egypt (1983), Grenada (1983), Honduras (1983), Chad (1983), Persian Gulf (1984), Libya (1986) , Bolivia (1986), Iran (1987), Persian Gulf (1987), Kuwait (1987), Iran (1988), Honduras (1988), Panama (1988), Libya (1989), Panama (1989), Colombia, Bolivia, and Peru (1989), Philippines (1989), Panama (1989-1990), Liberia (1990), Saudi Arabia (1990), Iraq (1991), Zaire (1991), Sierra Leone (1992), Somalia (1992), Bosnia-Herzegovina (1993 to present), Macedonia (1993), Haiti (1994), Macedonia (1994), Bosnia (1995), Liberia (1996), Central African Republic (1996), Albania (1997), Congo/Gabon (1997), Sierra Leon (1997), Cambodia (1997), Iraq (1998), Guinea/Bissau (1998), Kenya/Tanzania (1998 to 1999), Afghanistan/Sudan (1998), Liberia (1998), East Timor (1999), Serbia (1999), Sierra Leon (2000), Yemen (2000), East Timor (2000), Afghanistan (2001 to present), Yemen (2002), Philippines (2002) , Cote d’Ivoire (2002), Iraq (2003 to present), Liberia (2003), Georgia/Djibouti (2003), Haiti (2004), Georgia/Djibouti/Kenya/Ethiopia/Yemen/Eritrea War on Terror (2004), Pakistan drone attacks (2004 to present), Somalia (2007), South Ossetia/Georgia (2008), Syria (2008), Yemen (2009), Haiti (2010), etc. etc. etc. etc.

So, who is the danger to world peace?

Kaiser-Permanente Speaks Out On GMO’s

Kaiser Permanente, the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plan, has made an official statement on GMOs (genetically modified organisms in food,) calling the topic important both scientifically and politically.

In our last issue, Salem Weekly described “What You Need To Know About GMOs,” an article we found printed in Kaiser Permanente’s Northwest Fall 2012 newsletter, Partners in Health.

Because the author is not credited and the article itself is not available on Kaiser Permanente’s web site, Salem Weekly queried David Northfield, Media Relations Manager of Kaiser Permanente’s Communications & Organizational Research in Portland, to learn more.

Among other questions, we asked if the text of the article, reflected Kaiser Permanente’s official position on genetically modified organisms in food.

Northfield responded on November 25.  He said, “The article appearing in this fall’s issue of Partners in Health, Kaiser Permanente’s newsletter for members, was written by one of our nutritionists, and presents her views and insights on the subject. As a mission-based non-profit healthcare organization, we believe it is important to share information with our members on a wide range of topics related to health care and health, but we do not take an organizational position on every issue.”

Northfield went on to say, “Kaiser Permanente believes the ongoing research and debate on bio-engineered foods, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs), is important.  We also recognize there are important conversations about related initiatives and propositions.  While we believe these are important scientific and political debates, we do not have policy positions on these subjects.”

Though Kaiser Permenente will not state an official policy on GMOs, the nutritionist-author of “What You Need To Know About GMOs” (who is not named,) described studies that showed significant physical damage caused by GMOs and listed ways its members could avoid them.

GMO crops, or biotech crops, are plants whose DNA has been modified by genetic engineering techniques.  The process is believed to have begun in 1982 to make tobacco plants hardier.

It has burgeoned since then; a 2011 article published by an industry publication claims a 94-fold increase in worldwide acreage between 1996 and 2011.

In their article, the International Service for the Acquisition of Agra-biotech Applications calls biotech crops “the fastest adopted crop technology in the history of modern agriculture.”

Opponents to GMO foods organized in California this year with Proposition 37, which attempted to require food with GMO content to be labeled, and to prohibit from calling itself “natural.”  The Proposition failed on November 6.

Currently in the United States, although ingredients like peanuts must be mentioned on labels, foods with GMOs are not required to be.

Biotech and food corporations spent an estimated $39,000,000 to defeat the California proposition and hide their GMO ingredients.

In addition to a software app suggested by Kaiser Permanente’s nutritionist, Salem Weekly recommends the affiliated web site, nongmoshoppingguide.com.

Meanwhile, an original hard copy of the Partners in Health issue, including the article “What You Need To Know About GMOs” is available in our offices.

BOYCOTT TIME!!!

I have downloaded an Adobe PDF File of All the GMO products that you will find on your Grocery shelves. I warn you, this is a shockingly extensive list of what we all take for granted as everyday items.

Print it out for a handy shopping guide and remember, it’s protecting your health as much as sending a message to the companies who fail to properly label their products.

An Open Letter To The FDA

This morning, I sent an open letter to the FDA concerning Monsanto’s GMO’s in the open market. It seems that all testing that was done was done only by Monsanto and then rubber stamped by the FDA. The letter is posted below and I will follow up with the FDA’s response as soon as I receive it.

LETTER TO THE FDA:   ‘consumer@fda.gov’

I have been reading the FDA’s Consumer guides and documents to the tests and assurances of the safety of Genetically Modified Foods such as Corn, Soy and Beets and am concerned that the findings that have the FDA’s approval on them were all subject to testing by Monsanto themselves and then rubber stamped, with no further follow up by the FDA. This is reminiscent of  Aspartame when it was released without any testing, in the 80’s. Now we are getting warnings from the FDA of health problems being caused by Aspartame after all these years.

The number of people using Aspartame is nothing compared to those being exposed to GMO foods, which are being shown in France, the UK, Canada and South America to be causing serious problems with Genetic Modifications (DNA) in Lab Animals, Cancerous Tumors, changes in Thyroid growth and condition. Also, several countries have or are in the process of banning these seeds all together.

I ask you, as a concerned consumer to please pull these products from the market until they can be properly tested by the government and independent labs. It seems to me that if there wasn’t a hidden problem with the Modified Foods, Monsanto would not have objected so readily to the California Proposition to label all GMO foods.

If they don’t feel there is a problem, show it on the label and come right out and defend the products to the public by publicizing their studies and their findings. All they are doing by fighting labeling is adding fuel to the fire.

I look forward to your response.

When Did It All Begin?

I read article after article blaming one President after another for the current fiscal crisis, the current use of China for our manufacturing needs, Walmart under paying their employees and Fast Food not playing a living wage.

I was born in 1951. My Dad bought his first house in 1948 for $8000 with a 30 year mortgage, a new Chevy in 1950 for $800.00 and had to bring his own tires as there was still a Natural Rubber Shortage due to WW2. He had worked for Bendix Radio since 1940, with a break to serve as a Linesman for the 82nd Division in France, Belgium and Germany. Then back to Bendix as a assemblyman until his retirement at the age of 65. By the way, for all those years, he was a faithful member of the Machinists Union.

I started working 1966, at the age of 15 as a dish washer, worked up to a cook, then at 19 was offered a job in Management with the Legendary FW Woolworth Company, Harvest House Restaurant Division at $12,000 a year. This was 1972. When my Dad died in 1989 I was going through his pay stubs, and found that the last year that he worked, raised a family of 4, bought a house, several cars (used) and put $30,000 away in the bank, and worked for a union only was making $12,000 a year. He retired in 1987.

I am now disabled, after working for over 40 years. My body, racked by a stroke and a skiing accident finally gave up. I get about $12,500 a year. I paid into the system a long time. When I actually retire, I won’t get much more. My wife, as a Critical Care Nurse, with many years of Education and about 35 years of work history makes very good money, but she, at 60, does a lot of physical work, as hospitals in this area don’t want to pay aides or LPN’s. They also under staff their floors to also cut costs.

With Obama care coming and the Boomer retirement, there is a significant care shortage coming. Most hospitals cut out their Nursing programs in the 80’s and are very slow starting them up again. Besides, they don’t want to pay these nurse much money.

On to Wages and Manufacturing.

In 1955, the minimum wage was 75 cents per hour, which was worth $4.39 in 1996 Dollars. Then ran $1.00 from 1956 through 1960, but the 1996 Dollars went from $5.77 to $5.30 so there was a down turn due to the start of out sourcing to Japan.

The highest Ratio of year to 1996 wage comparison was 1968 during the peak of the Vietnam War and that was $1.60 per hour to a 1996 ratio of $7.21 and it has been falling ever since.

We have been outsourcing to Taiwan, Korea, Bangladesh, India, Japan (again), Argentina, Mexico and on and on.

This is nothing new. However, the volume of current outsourcing is. Never before have so many business’s gone out of business or been consolidated. An entire industry has grown around liquidating marginal or losing business’s. Instead of trying to save older brands of Retailers or Restaurant Brands they liquidate them for pennies on the dollar, sell the Retail names to consolidators who revive the brands on the web under the original banners with one warehouse I/E Tiger Direct & CompUSA.  And if their sales continue as predicted, you will see all the brick and mortar  Best Buy’s end up exclusively on the web.

Is $7.25 an hour too low a wage? Yes, but, you have to consider the following things. The prices that are going up for you, as far as gas, food, and utilities are going up for business’s, as well. Restaurants and even Walmart are paying more for goods and services. I do think if working conditions are bad, they should improve those, but even in the past, health care was never a benefit for hourly workers and Medicaid from various states was not available until the 60’s and then not to people on Minimum Wage, as it is now in most areas. No, 52 inch Flat Screens, Cell Phones and Computers are not necessities, even now. Nether are credit cards, brand new cars or designer clothes.

People, including myself, over the years, have tried to live beyond our means. Welfare, starting in the 60’s, as a temporary relief program, has become a way of life for, at least, 3 generations and has been paid for out of Social Security.

Now the Boomers are retiring and the government is trying to take our benefits we paid into, all these years, away.

As much as I can blame the banks, the Government and the business’s for a lot of our troubles, we really have to look deep into the people ourselves who have bled the system dry for 50 years and demand that it continue to support a life style that was never deserved.

This Ones For You, Bibi!

UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY VOTES 138 FOR, 9 AGAINST, 41 ABSTAIN. PALESTINE IS RECOGNIZED AS A STATE!

Time to lift the blockade and end the illegal settlements.

The US and Israel voted against. Apparently, the rest of the world has seen the light and are tired of the BULLSHIT.
